Abu Dhabi Derivatives Company Limited (TAZEER), a joint venture between ADNOC and ADQ, announced the award of the contract to implement the first methanol production plant in Ruwais Industrial City in the UAE, as part of the country’s strategy to enhance the chemicals sector and achieve economic diversification.

It is considered one of the largest plants in the world in this field, as part of efforts to enhance Abu Dhabi’s position as a global center for advanced chemical production.
TaZEER revealed in a statement published on February 3, 2025 the award of the engineering, procurement and construction contract worth AED 6.2 billion ($1.7 billion) to Samsung E&A.

The methanol plant in the UAE is estimated to have a capacity of about 1.8 million tons per year when it is operational in 2028, using electricity derived from clean energy sources, making it one of the most energy-efficient plants in the world.
These developments come within the framework of Tazeez’s efforts to develop a world-class system in the chemicals sector in the Al Dhafra region. The CEO of Tazeez, Mishaal Saud Al Kindi, described the award of the contract to establish the plant as an important step to enhance the growth of the industrial sector in the country, and highlight its leading position in sustainable chemical production.
