Gold hits record high at end of Monday trading, exceeds $2,900

Gold prices rose in global markets at the end of Monday trading, achieving a new record level.

Gold futures rose 1.6%, with gains of about $47, at $2,934 per ounce.
By 9:07 pm GMT, spot gold rose 1.6%, or $45, to $2,906 per ounce.
By 9:08 pm GMT, the dollar rose 0.2% against the euro at $1.0308, the greenback rose 0.3% against the Japanese yen at 151.9300 yen, and rose 0.3% against the British pound at $1.2367.
